Slaters Home Furnishings Designer Bio, Crystal Hollis
Crystal Hollis, Interior Design Consultant
Crystal
considers high-end furniture to be fine art, saying it’s an investment
that will be an heirloom someday. She notes that much of the furniture
Slater’s carries is handcrafted or hand finished. “The beauty of the
furniture is often in the finish, which can be up to a 28-step process,”
says Crystal, who offers more than 20 years of interior design
experience.
A Modesto native who has always had an eye for fine
art, Crystal started her career designing visual store displays while
attending college. She received her art and interior design education
from a private interior design college in San Ramon and through Modesto
Junior College.
She later spent several years lending her talents
to her mother’s design business and showroom, where Crystal specialized
in designing window coverings and helped clients select and purchase
furniture. Her love for fine arts carries over into her hobbies such as
watercolor, oil painting, mosaics, sculpture and photography, as well as
landscape architecture and growing bonsai with the Modesto Bonsai Club.
“I
enjoy getting to know my customers on a personal basis, which helps me
to understand their lifestyle and design tastes,” Crystal says. “My
goals are to transform each clients’ residence into the home of their
dreams and to provide the ultimate in customer service.” Crystal looks
forward to working with you every step of the way.
What Crystal
wants you to know about Slater’s: “We have a wonderful selection of
fabrics that I’ve not seen anyplace else. Not only do we offer in-home
design services, including drawing floor plans, placing furniture,
installing window coverings and accessorizing, we also coordinate fabric
for sofas, throw pillows and window coverings. In addition, we always
follow up on deliveries to make sure you are happy. Slater’s is like a
dreamland of beautiful furniture for your home.”

Larry Shaw, Interior Designer, Allied Member A.S.I.D.
Business
owner and independent contractor Larry Shaw offers nearly two decades
of interior design expertise. After attending the design program at
Brooks College in Southern California, he partnered with some of the
most upscale interior design showrooms in Monterey and the Bay Area
before opening his own interior design and architectural detailing firm,
LSI Design, in 2002.
A California native who grew up in
Monterey, Larry has served clients throughout the Bay and Peninsula
Areas, Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe and more. His work has appeared in
design publications including Gentry, South Bay Accents and California
Home and Design. To view portfolio highlights, please visit
www.lsidesign.com.
“Beautiful rooms begin with a plan,” says
Larry, who believes that the ultimate design solution is to create an
environment that is an expression of the client, rather than the
designer. Through color, texture and balance, he enjoys leading clients
through what he calls “the creative process” to discover what appeals to
their sensibilities.
Larry is passionate about the arts and
crafts movement of the early 20th century. He is inspired by the works
of such architects and furniture designers as Gustav Stickley, Harvey
Ellis, Charles and Henry Greene, Elbert Hubbard of The Roycrofts, and
Frank Lloyd Wright.
He is pleased that through Slater’s, he can
offer his clients superior selection, quality, installation services and
discounts beyond those he customarily provides as an independent
interior designer. What Larry wants you to know about Slater’s:
“I have a deep understanding of the advantages of designing through an
established showroom such as Slater’s, which offers endless resources of
quality furniture, lighting, accessories, handmade area rugs and more.
Whether you are constructing, remodeling or simply updating an interior
space, I invite you to come in and meet with me Saturday through Tuesday
at our beautiful Modesto location.”

-- Designer Bio, Christine Gammage
Christine Gammage, Interior Designer
Christine
Gammage believes that the right design in a home can make a big
difference in a number of ways. For example, she says, the home can
become more livable and functional. “It also helps the owner feel
comfortable entertaining friends and family.”
Originally from
New Haven, Connecticut, Christine received her bachelor’s degree in
textiles and fashion merchandising from California Polytechnic Institute
(Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, California. She has more than 10 years
of experience in merchandising and a passion for textiles and home
design. She also loves gardening, landscaping and creating exciting
outdoor vignettes.
People can become “stuck in a rut,” so to
speak when it comes to room design, Christine notes. “Perhaps they’ve
had an area in their home one way for several years, so it may be hard
to visualize it any other way.” Taking advantage of Slater’s design
services is always beneficial, she says, because experienced designers
can look at a particular room or area with a fresh eye.
Christine
listens to her clients regarding their goals for a given space, then
offers several options. “I’m very resourceful when it comes to finding
items for given spaces,” she says. “I can take something you would never
think would work and it will turn out beautifully.” Her goals for every
customer are their complete satisfaction with the outcome, and also
that they feel like they’ve gained a friend.
What Christine wants
you to know about Slater’s: “We’re up on most of the current home and
room design trends and we have a lot of resources at our disposal. Our
entire goal is to make you happy. We go above and beyond to make sure
that not only will you leave our showroom happy and satisfied, but
you’ll also recommend us to your friends and family.”
